    PARTY GALLERY
Early August means Assembly in the demoscene and it has been like that for well over a decade now. Assembly is definately among the biggest parties of the year in terms of visitors although not all of the visitors go to Assembly for demoscene reasons.

Anyway, a new online party gallery has been added to the GFXZone and I am sure you guessed by now that it is for Finnish Assembly 2003. This party has always seen the release of many graphics productions in the compos, and I am glad to say this year was no exception. From all the graphics released at Assembly we have made a solution of 20 images from the handdrawn compo and 20 images from the freestyle compo. Personally, I am pleased with the average quality of the images released at Assembly. Go see if you agree in the new Assembly 2003 online gallery.

If you want to see all the entries, including the oldskool and fast graphics images, a party archive is also available for download (42997 KB). Modem-users beware, the size of the archive is about fourtythree megabytes!

    NEW POLL
With advancements in technology it is natural that digital art like images evolves as well. The demoscene started out with low-color palette based pixelled images, but images like that are becoming rare, most demoscene images are in 24bit nowadays. At Assembly last month the party organizers had a compo where oldskool images could compete in a separate compo. The poll question this time is: do you think 100% pixeled pictures should be in a separate compo? You can give your answer to this question in the poll on the right side of this page.
This poll was suggested by Zixaq of Ephidrena and Creators. Thanks man!!

In our previous poll we asked what our visitors think is the most important aspect in a demoscene image. For me it was pretty hard to decide between quality and atmostphere/style and I admit the line between these options is pretty thin most of the time. A little over 50 percent of the voters thinks that style and atmosphere is the most important thing, 31 percent values overall quality most. The remaining votes were spread over other aspects. Check the old results if you are interested in the details.

It has been quite a while since the last update and the graphics I want to show you are stockpiling on my HD. But I hope you will be a little more patient as the current update will consist of graphics from 2002 parties only. As an appetizer for things to come and to tease you a bit I present you with the new image of the week, a recent coop by Phornee and Lentium. Yes, I love to see people making quality 8-bit images!

The additional 2002 archives are for Cafe, Dreamhack and the Krangparty. The graphics in these archives are of average quality, nothing exceptionally good. The Cafe (2690KB) archive also contains the graphics from their ZX compo. For Dreamhack (13081KB) I liked the entries by Saim, Acet1 and Dubmood, and at the Krangparty (2942KB) Razorback made another appearance.

One of the countries that has provided the scene with many nice graphicians over the past few years is Spain. In my opinion Spanish parties often have interesting entries in their graphics compos, but today you can check my statement for yourself. I have uploaded two archives for Spanish parties - BCNParty 10 and Durango 4.

Shock ruled supreme in the 2D and fast compos at both parties, just get these archives and check the graphics out. Downloads available for BCNParty 10 (7078KB) and Durango 4 (6312KB). Enjoy!

If you are into C64 graphics and/or create C64 graphics yourselves I think you definately want to know about a C64 graphics compo that is happening right now. On this site you can find all information regarding the compo, looks very interesting to me and I'll certainly check out the results. The deadline is June 15th, which is a little over one week from now.

    NEW POLL
After a few movie-related polls it is time again for a graphics-related question on the GFXZone. Everybody has an opinion about demoscene graphics, but what is the most important aspect in a demoscene image for you personally? You can give the answer to this question in the poll on the right side of this page.

Out previous poll was has been up for quite a few weeks which resulted in a lot of votes. In that poll I was wondering what you thought of the Lord of the Rings movie The Towers when compared to Fellowship of the Ring. Almost 50% of the voters thought The Two Towers was equal or better as Fellowship of the Ring, check out the old results if you are interested in the total results.

Last weekend was easter and for the last couple of years that meant Mekka and Symposium. Unfortunately MS is dead now, but the Breakpoint party emerged to fill the gap that Mekka left. I was at Breakpoint party and I can say that the party managed to live up to (and beyond) the expectations I had. A big thank you to the Breakpoint organization for some great memories!

You are a visitor of the GFXZone so you probably want to know about the graphics that were released in the compos at Breakpoint. Some pretty darn decent images have been released at this party, and in the latest update we added a new gallery to the GFXZone with the best graphics from Breakpoint. In the new gallery you will find 25 pictures that have been released, 20 images from the freestyle compo and 5 from the theme compo. The theme for the Theme compo at Breakpoint was Ice.

One of my favourite images is the image by Helge, this image is also the new image of the week. But there are many more brilliant images in this gallery, among others two very professional and very cool images by Acryl. Other highlights include images by Visualice, xeNusion, Raven, Fireball and others. Enter the Breakpoint 2003 online gallery

A large archive with all Breakpoint compo graphics is also available for download. (24475KB)

Late last year the first edition of a new demoparty was held in France. This party was announced as being somewhere between the Wired and the LTP, which suggested what visitors could expect from the party. I am talking about State of the art 2002, and I have seen some seriously nice prods! Later this month another first edition party will take place, this time in Bingen, Germany. Lets see what that party will bring!

Until then you'll have to make do with our latest update, which is an online party gallery for last years' State of the Art. This new gallery shows the best entries from the graphics compos at that party, and there are many great graphics for you to look at! Spread over three competitions 35 images are available online - oldschool, raytrace and a regular gfx compo.

I found it an extremely pleasant surprise to see some new graphics by Tenshu again. But there are plenty images in this gallery, for example productions by Ak, Danube, Mikl, Splif and a very atmospherical scene by Nytrik just to name a few. Enter the State of the Art 2002 online gallery

In this update we provide you with compo graphics from some older parties from 2002. Three archives have been added to the GFXZone: Vip 4 (3130KB), Syndeecate 2002 (2439KB) and Slach 4 (2153KB).

The graphics from these compos are not extremely hot, but what I liked from the Vip images are oldschool entries by Critikill and Moxica and some of the graphics from the fast compo. At the Syndeecate party in the Czech Republic the compos were split in an Amiga and a PC part, Wade and Slayer scored well in the Amiga compo. At Slach a rather original entry by Deepnight won the compo.

There are quite a few sceners that have been around for a long time, but few have been as active as Visualice used to be. This guy has worked on a staggering amount of demoscene productions. Unfortunately for us Visualice recently left Haujobb to concentrate on other forms of art. We have updated his personal gallery on the gfxzone with plenty of high-quality graphics.

The updated gallery consists of 5 parts with 100 images in total, most of which are now finally available in their full PNG quality for the first time ever (thanks Timo!!). Older images are in the first parts of the gallery, more recent images can be found nearer to the end. To show that Visualice is also graphically active in a non-digital way, the fourth part of the gallery shows sketches. Some of the sketches that Visualice provided for us to show in his gallery are also available for purchase online, check it out if you are interested!

Over a year has passed since we posted our last Hidden message gallery, so this gallery is well overdue for an update. And that is exactly what today's update is about!

If you don't know what these hidden messages are, let me tell you that a lot of graphicians use a trick to hide information (usually text) in their images. So some images that you already know for years might contain information you didn't know about. Perhaps the graphicians are feeding you subliminal messages to vote for their images...

As usual, we will first give some time to find the hidden messages yourself, and in one of the next updates we will reveal the hidden messages for you. Discover what your favorite graphician has hidden for you to find.

Wade started on the Amiga demoscene somewhere in the early nineties and a couple of years ago it looked like he left the scene. Lucky for us he picked up his old habits again, so we can look forward to seeing more of his work in future productions.

Some of the images Wade created are really classics (imho), do you remember that old guy behind the window of the spaceship in the Amiga demo The Relic? That image was by Wade. A total of 25 images by Wade are available in a new personal gallery on the gfxzone. These images are mostly his older 8bit work, and additionally there are also a couple of more recent 24bit graphics by Wade. Enjoy!

Many parties have been held over the past few months, which means many graphics will be added to the GFXZone. And I hope you like party archives, because we plan to add a lot of those to this site in the near future (knock on wood)!

In this update the first archive is for the Spanish Euskal 10 party. Plenty of graphics were released in the 5 graphics compos at this party. The current image of the week by Shock won this party, I have seen some in-between stages of his image and I am impressed! But the Euskal archive has more to offer, other winner-quality graphics by Newalpha, Pwyll, Zaac and 8bit images by Interface and Leunam. Lots of megabytes, but worth the Download (8590KB).

Furthermore, there is an archive for Buenzli 11 (2959KB), where Acet1 ruled the compo with a kick-ass image, and an archive for Antiq 2002 (2314KB).

With the release of the new Lord of the Rings movie gettings closer every single day, I was wondering about your movie theater habits. Are you annoyed when the person 5 rows in front of you is eating something out of a crispy bag making so much sound you can't concentrate on the movie? So, what is your favourite movie refreshment? :-)

Our last poll stirred an unusual amount of reactions from visitors in my inbox. I don't mind, I always like to hear about your views! The question we asked last time was when you thought the scene would die, and it seems that about 60% of the voters think there will always be a demoscene in some form or another. Check out the old results for a more detailed breakdown of the score if you are interested.

A new personal gallery has been added to the GFXZone, this time it is for the Polish graphician Rork. Rork has been using his Amiga to create graphics for a long time and I am sure you have seen some of his graphics before. Recently Rork started using a PC and a tablet to create 24bit graphics, and I was glad to see that he has been able to bring his unique 8bit style into his 24bit graphics.

In this new personal gallery you will find a nice display of the best graphics Rork ever created. Most of these graphics are 8bit, except for the image that is also our current image of the week. 20 Images in total have been added for your viewing pleasure.

A lot of people creating demoscene graphics have been around for many years, sometimes even a decade or more. For new graphicians it is always extra hard to get the recognition they seek. One of those new graphicians is Polish BamboOS. He has not been around very long, but I've seen his graphics all over the place. Especially his logo's popped up in quite a few demoscene productions. Besides doing graphics, BamboOS is also coding.

The reason for the delay in GFXZone updates lately is major hardware problems on my main machine. I hope everything is fixed now, so I'll be able to reply to all your mails. If you haven't received a reply by now, please contact me again.

Besides the graphics Magicboy creates, you might also know him from his animations. I vividly remember seeing his It's over animation on the last TakeOver party in 2001. This is one of my favourite demoscene animations of all time. It is available from scene.org if you are interested.

If a certain time of the year could be called party season, this is it! The amount of parties that have been held lately is simply overwhelming. In due time the graphics from these parties will find their way onto the GFXZone, this update is for Assembly 2002.

Unfortunately I have mixed feelings about the graphics released at this year's Assembly. The quality of the graphics is what you would expect from this party, but the ranking does not correctly reflect the high quality of some of the graphics. This seems to be a typical case where the preselection of graphics failed miserably. For example: out of the roughly 50 images in the 'drawn' compo only 15 were preselected to compete, and it looked to me like blind people were in the preselection team! Because of this many graphics that deserved to be in the compo were not shown at all, which must have been a huge disappointment for the graphicians involved.

Anyway, the GFXZone decided to show you those 'unworthy' graphics as well. We selected 60 of the best images from the compos at Assembly. The compos are Raytraced, Analog (scanned sketches/paintings) and Drawn (freestyle). Don't look at the rankings too much, you decide which images you like.

Enter the Assembly 2002 online gallery

Not all graphics released at Assembly have been included in the online gallery. If you are interested in a collection of all the graphics, you could also download our party archive that has all the graphics from Assembly. Beware though, the archive is very large! Download. (47203KB)

    NEW POLL
A visitor suggested the question in the new poll to us. When do you think the scene will die? It may sound like yet another rant about the state of the scene, but since I am convinced that everyone is the scene and the scene is everyone, I am very curious about your views on this.

The last poll inquired about the preferred graphical scene art of our visitors. It is probably not a complete surprise that most people prefer pixel and hand-drawn graphics, but I was surprised to discover that a whopping 91% of you thought so. These results will be considered in future updates and galleries on the GFXZone.

In this update we have a lot of new graphics to show you. A few party archives and an online party gallery for Symphony 2002.

In the short time the Symphony party exists, it has grown to one of the biggest (perhaps the biggest?) parties in Poland. For the online gallery we have selected the 10 best graphics from the pixel compo at Symphony. The winner image by Mime is also our current image of the week, other interesting graphics by Critikill, Lester, Statique and others! Enter the Symphony 2002 online gallery

The online gallery for Symphony contains only a selection of the graphics from that party, we have also uploaded an archive with all graphics from all compos for Symphony 2002 (7641KB). Additional party archives are for Lobotomia 2002 (2359KB), with an image by Visualice and for React 2002 (1259KB).

For this update we have created a new personal gallery with 25 of the images of the Gfx-twins. All the images are small pallette images, and all the images have been created many years ago. This means yet another gallery on the GFXZone for all you pixel-lovers! Enter the new Gfx-twins gallery

We have a few galleries on the GFXZone that are filled with images that share a theme. One of those theme galleries is the Manga gallery, which is obviously a collection of Manga-themed scene-images.

This theme gallery has been expanded with a fourth part and 20 additional images! There are pixeled images, a bit of photoshop work and even a few traced images. Some of the images have been created almost a decade ago, others are more recent. A few of them are copies and a few are original. Anyway, just check it out and see if there are some images you like.

Finally we can put a new poll online. What type of scene graphics do you like to see best? For the sake of getting a clear result I tried avoiding going into too many detailed categories, so you only have three basic choices. Choose wisely :)

For the previous poll we asked you why you visit the GFXZone. It seems that 40% of the visitors like the online galleries of the GFXZone best. The previous results are available here, don't forget to vote in the new poll on the right side of this page.

Today we would like to officially announce a special project the GFXZone team is working on.

We are building a huge collection of demoscene graphics. This collection is much larger than what is available online on the GFXZone and we plan to release the entire collection to the demoscene on a DVD in the future. We welcome everybody to participate in this non-profit project, contributions of personal graphics collections are especially welcome.

Over the next couple of days two of the biggest scene events of the year will take place, The Gathering and Mekka & Symposium. I will be visiting Mekka myself, so this could be a perfect occasion for you to contribute to the DVD project. If you are a graphician, a demoscene lover, or a mad collector like I am, take your graphics collection to Mekka and contribute to the project! Every contribution is welcome: oldskool, lowres, newskool, hires, 8bit, 24bit, traced, C64, Speccy, CPC, full screen images, logos, cliparts, diskmag backgrounds, object textures, sketches and you name it. You will be credited for your contribution.

If you are not going to Mekka and still want to contribute, or you have suggestions for the DVD project, mail me. See you at Mekka!

In our previous poll we asked you for which graphician you would like to see a personal gallery, and 30 percent of you voted for Louie. Because of this result, and because a Louie personal gallery should have been created on the GFXZone a long time ago, we present you with a new online gallery. A Louie gallery :-)

Louie has been creating graphics for the demoscene for many years, so in his gallery you will find many classic images. But I think it is also safe to assume that you will find lots of unknown graphics here - I have received many graphics from Louie which he wanted us to include in this personal gallery!

Ofcourse his entries for early editions of The Party have been included (from TP93 onwards), but much more is available. The first part of his gallery has a lot of classic lowres graphics and higher parts show more recent work. Enter the new Louie gallery

    NEW POLL
Last time we asked you in our poll from which graphician you would like to see a personal gallery. Because of this poll the GFXZone now has a Louie gallery, you can check the old poll-results here. We hope to add personal galleries of other graphicians that you requested in the near future.

The next poll is a so-called demographical poll (how appropriate). Just tell us what year you were born, it's easy!

    ARCHIVES
Today a couple of party archives have been added to the online collection, and I have to say that there are some reasonably decent graphics for you to see.

The first archive is for a party from last year, Demobit 2001 (4282KB), Where Shtif ruled the graphics compos.

Also available are archives for Hype 2002 (3007KB), where a manga pic won the compo, and 0a000h 2002 (1668KB), where Statique won pixel and Degrysin won traced.

    NEW POLL
The february poll has been a bit delayed, but finally it is here. We would like to hear from you who you think should get a personal gallery on the GFXZone.

Creating a personal gallery is not a five-minute job for us - we always try to get in contact with the graphician, and ask if they will allow us to create a personal gallery. This costs some time, but it does give the best results. So if you will tell us who you think should have a personal gallery soon, we know where to focus our efforts...

We have compiled a short list of graphicians you can vote for. If you think people are missing on the list, just mail us directly and tell us who you think should have a personal gallery. With this poll you have the ability to directly influence the content of the GFXZone!

    PERSONAL GALLERY
In this update we present you a new personal gallery that has been sadly lacking on the GFXZone until today. The gallery is for Fiver, which makes it a new personal gallery for an oldschool graphician!

Fiver used to be a pretty active Amiga graphician in the mid-nineties. A lot of his graphics are created in Amiga hires screenmode (640*256), so we have vertically stretched those graphics to allow for a more correct aspect ratio when viewing. The personal gallery shows 40 images by Fiver, enter the gallery here.

I vividly remember seeing his superb Artwork logo in the Amiga demo Greenday for the first time. (That logo is image 14 in part 2 of his new personal gallery.) In this demo there was a really cool palette-trick performed on the logo, which made it seem like a sunrise was happening in the picture. Anyway, just watch the demo if you want to know what I mean :-)

Pheon submitted a news-item regarding Siggraph:

The Demoscene Outreach crew invites all sceners to submit their intros and demos to one of the most important conferences on computer graphics, Siggraph. We are very happy to assist anyone with the submitting process, as it requires conversion to NTSC VHS.

    PERSONAL GALLERY
Quite often I get mails from people having images that are not on the GFXZone, and I really appreciate that. For some graphicians this happens more often than for others, but for Lazur this happens most often of all. So when even Lazur himself started mailing me graphics that were not yet in his personal gallery I realised that it was high time to create an update!

As a result we bring you an update to the personal gallery of Lazur. The last time we updated his gallery was back in 1999, and today 20 images have been added to his personal gallery. When you check the gallery you will notice that Lazur has been experimenting a lot with graphical styles lately. Those of you that try to see all the latest graphics will be familiar with a couple of the added images, but I have also received a few images that I haven't seen anywhere else on the net.

The following link will take you directly to the 8th part of the updated Lazur personal gallery, which has most of the added images. Enjoy!

A total of 47 graphical gems by 43 different graphicians have been awarded Image of the week in 2001. As you can imagine there are a lot of high quality pictures in this gallery, visit the iotw gallery here

    THEME GALLERY
A couple of months ago the GFXZone started a new series of theme galleries about graphics on classic demoscene platforms. The first theme gallery was for the Amstrad CPC, and this time we are focussing on the ZX Spectrum.

This machine has been very popular in the eastern parts of Europa and in Russia. Its popularity in that part of the world was similar to the popularity of the C64 and CPC in western Europe. To this very day the ZX Spectrum is a very popular platform at many Russian demoparties.

An article has been written about the history, the specs and the graphical capabilities of the Spectrum. Especially the people who never used a Spectrum (like myself) will discover some interesting facts here. The article has been written in close cooperation with the people from ZpiXel, a Russian scene site about graphics on the Spectrum. It has been released simultaneously on the GFXZone and on ZpiXel. Read the ZX Spectrum article here.

Ofcourse there are also a couple of graphics online for you to check out. No less than 180 graphics from the Speccy-scene are awaiting your visit. This gallery will give you a great overview of what the Spectrum is capable of, it includes old graphics and recent works. Enter the new ZX Spectrum theme gallery.

    PARTY GALLERY
Between Christmas and New Year is the time of The Party. If you have seen all the demos from The Party, you will have noticed that a lot of productions are not too hot (unfortunately). The same goes for the graphics released at The Party - there is some nice stuff, but I expected a bit more. Overall I enjoyed the raytraced graphics more than the pixels.

We have created an online gallery that shows the top 10 pixel and top 10 raytraced graphics from The Party. At the time this gallery was created a lot of names for the people who created the graphics were unknown, the gallery will be updated when more info is available. For a complete collection of all the graphics, you should download The Party archive (14782KB).

Another added archive is for Arroutada 2001. Jull was kind enough to give me access to those graphics that were not available on the GFXZone or the regular ftp channels. The current image of the week is from that party. Download the Arroutada archive here (5837KB).

Starchild submitted a news-item regarding new real-time animation and scripting: (first seen on OJuice)

    PERSONAL GALLERY
To herald the new year we have a very interesting personal gallery and interview combo. This time it is all about Unreal from Hungary (not to be mistaken with Polish Unreal). Unreal has been most active as a demoscene graphician in the mid to end ninetees.

You have probably seen a few demos that feature artwork by Unreal. If you have, you know that his graphics use no more than 256 colours and always have very distinctive colour schemes. In the personal gallery we created for Unreal you can find 50 of his best images, the oldest images are from 1996. Unreal has send us quite a few previously unreleased works for this gallery! And also check out the highly appropriate Image of the Week by Unreal :-)

Mr Ed from the GFXZone had the opportunity to do an interview with Unreal. It is not uncommon that GFXzone interviews take a long time to complete, but this interview was started about three years ago! Unreal talks about his early years in the scene, about his own graphics and his current situation.

Read the Unreal interview and visit his new gallery

    NEW POLL
New year is usually a time of looking forward. In this case looking forward to 2002 and the demoscene - what do you think will happen? You can give your opinion in the new poll on the right of this page. We at the GFXZone hope it will be a great new year for everybody!

    CHRISTMAS
Ho-ho-hoooo! It is Christmas time and we have a surprise gift for you!

3D Addict has created a high quality and very stylish wallpaper for your desktop. The resolution is 1280x960 and the image shows a big demo-esque object set in a digital environment. As you might expect from the GFXZone, a couple of classic demoscene graphics have been used as well. The image also shows our URL and slogan.

On the right side of this page you will see your present waiting for you. You can download it by clicking on the gift or by downloading it here (1540KB). (Don't worry, the giftwrapping is not included on the image :-))

Also, the current image of the week has a christmas theme. Who would have known Santa Claus was a gamer? Thanks to Jull for sending the image!

The GFXZone team wishes you a merry Christmas!

    ARCHIVES
This update has been a bit delayed due to technical problems, but after some help from Jimbo/Planet-d the problems soon disappeared. Without Planet-d the GFXZone would not exist in its current state, so thanks!

It seems to be the quiet season in the scene, let's hope that this is the quiet before the storm which is The Party. Until then, we have a little update to our website.

What we added in this update are party-archives, but the quality of the graphics in these new archives is not what I would have liked to see. Download added archives for the 2001 editions of Kindergarden (1490KB), Millenium(fr) (2628KB) and Spoletium (797KB).

The biggest disappointment was for DreamHack (11707KB). For a party that has almost 50 entries in the graphics compos I expected a few good entries. But I regret to tell you that the quality of most of the graphics is very low. Some of the traced entries could be considered interesting, so only download this archive if you are really interested or have a high speed modem...

    ARTICLES
This update contains a bit of reading material for graphicians looking for tips. First of all, we have for you an article originally written by XBarr explaining how he created one of his pictures. The picture he writes about is the train picture from the demo Toys by Gods and his article gives some insight into XBarr's approach when creating pictures. Read his text here

Also, we removed some of the dust that was gathering on an old article on the GFXZone. Maybe you remember the old DemoNews from a couple of years ago? Well, in DemoNews Shaithis had a regular column called A graphician's tip book. Because the articles have been written many years ago the information in it is sometimes outdated, but the concepts discussed still hold. We re-worked the articles for you, so if you are looking for a good explanation and some basic tips on the use of tools like DPaint or Photoshop (Version 3 :)), this article is what you should read...

Lastly, we updated the Poll Question. Maybe you remember last months question about 255 255 255 being black or white? A surprising amount of visitors answered the question incorrect (about 1 in every 6). The new poll has no wrong or right answer, only perhaps politically correct - What do you want for Christmas?

In our previous update we posted the fourth edition of the Hidden message gallery. Now we post a new gallery with the same great 8bit images, but this time the hidden messages have been revealed. Did you find all the messages?

    THEME GALLERY
Our Hidden message gallery is gradually becoming a real tradition on the GFXZone. Today we have uploaded the fourth gallery with 20 new images that have a message hidden inside them.

If you think you have never seen an image with a hidden message before, check out the previous hidden message galleries and be surprised. In this fourth edition Fame, Lazur, Made & Pix and many others have been feeding you subliminal information. As usual, we will first give some time to find the hidden messages yourself, and next weekend we will reveal the hidden messages for you.

Look for the new hidden messages here

Dzordan has been a very active graphician for many years and today we can show you a new personal gallery with his graphics on the GFXZone. This new personal gallery has 50 images and gives you a stunning overview of what Dzordan has accomplished the past 6 years. Some of the images in this gallery date back as far as 1995 and are great to see because they show how Dzordan started. And there are also some very recent graphics in this gallery that show how the graphics of this Polish hardcore Amiga graphician have matured over time.

But little information is known about him, so that is why we are glad Dzordan agreed to do an interview with the GFXZone! This large interview is definately worth your time as there is plenty of info hidden inside. Did you know for example that Dzordan loves elephants, but has killed several mouses? Or would you like to read Dzordan's views on The Matrix part II, or what he thinks about comparing his graphics to those of Lazur? All this and much more in the interview I had with Dzordan

Tobias Reichert submitted a news-items regarding the release of his Infinity Textures v2.1:

I-Tex is a powerful seamless texture designer for all professional graphics artists who need seamless textures of high quality for web design, presentations, DTP, 3D Rendering/Raytracing and game development. The innovative interface was designed and fine-tuned for quick and comfortable working with multiple textures. The multithreaded engine can handle textures up to 4096x4096 pixels and offers you well over a hundred of highly flexible functions for a wide palette of texture effects. The application supports scripts and can be extended with plug-ins. Animated textures can be rendered by using the included particle system animator or the powerful generator engine functions. A genetic texture generator is included that creates images by just a few clicks. Images can be converted to seamless textures with various functions like kaleidoscopes and blend functions. A texture extraction tool gives you the ability to extract textures from photos and assign a perspective correction to it. The textures can be visualized and previewed mapped on standard primitives or rendered on a landscape height map using the integrated photorealistic landscape raytracer, that also creates spherical and cubic environment maps.

Languages supported : English and German

    ANNOUNCEMENT
Many cool graphics have been created over the years on 8bit machines. The GFXZone was able to show this to you a couple of weeks ago when we first showed a theme gallery with demoscene graphics from Amstrad CPC, and we want to continue this trend for other platforms.

One of the 8bit platforms that is still very much alive is the ZX-Spectrum. In fact, this part of the demoscene has shown great progress over the last 3 years or so. So it makes perfect sense that a website about graphics on the ZX-Spectrum should be created. And that is exactly what happened.

Placebo, a Russian group, opened a new scene portal dedicated to ZX-Spectrum graphics, called ZpiXel. The website is in Russian, but I think that you will find it very easy to find the images. The reason for this is that the layout of ZpiXel is based on some other website about demoscene graphics that you sometimes visit. :^) Visit ZpiXel now!

If you like archived galleries, then we have a lot for you to enjoy in this update! All archives are for recent parties from 2001.

Our first archive is for the Polish Delirium party (2690KB), and has good graphics by for example Lester, Mantra & Ural. The Latvian Phat party (1829KB) is 8bit oriented and the archive has many very goodlooking graphics from ZX Spectrum, but also 24bit imagery by Critikill & Acryl. On the Trsac party (2950KB) in Denmark, one of the compo's was a sketch compo. Other highlist from that party include a nice lowres 8bit by Fireball and an image with a message by Mogens.

Besides all that, we also uploaded archives for Digital Nexus (1009KB), Norvegia (3954KB) & Syndeecate (3283KB).

Two archived party galleries have been added to our growing collection. They are archives for parties that were held this summer, one for Core 2001 and another for Slach 2001.

The Core 2001 (9252KB) party is a Hungarian party from last August. The best images in this archive are a truecolor image by Inferno and pixels by Critikill, Mime and Azure, who won the pixel compo with his entry.

Kel Solaar created a manga-style trace image that won the 3D compo at the French Slach 2001 (7466KB) party. There are a few other very enjoyable graphics in this archive as well.

    THEME GALLERY
If you have been involved in the demoscene for a lot of years, chances are that your first computer was not the system you are currently using. Plenty of sceners first became interested in the scene in the days of the C64, CPC or Spectrum. Obviously, this means that many demoscene graphics have been (and still are being!) created for these platforms.

So the GFXZone is bringing these graphics to your attention by creating theme galleries for each platform. Today's theme gallery is completely focussed on the Amstrad CPC. Many sceners have created graphics for this platform, but did you know that Made was one of them? There are 130 images in this new gallery, and still the total size of all the images combined is well under one megabyte :-) Enter the new CPC theme gallery.

For the people that have never worked with this machine, or for the ones that just want to reminisce the good old days, we have also written a little article about the Amstrad CPC and its graphical capabilities. The article can help you understand why you can't run Photoshop on these little babies. Read the CPC article here.

We want to create the best possible oldschool theme galleries for all oldschool platforms, so if you have a collection of graphics for one of these platforms, please contact us. We are very interested to hear from you! And also, check out our new poll and let us know what your first computer was.

    PERSONAL GALLERY
Over the last couple of months a lot of new personal galleries have been posted on the GFXZone from various Polish demoscene graphicians. Today is no exception and we can present you with a new Polish personal gallery. This time the spotlights are on Mantra.

This fresh two-part personal gallery for Mantra has 40 images in total. The first part with 20 images contains only logos, here you will find old logos and new ones in both 8bit and 24bit. The second part has Mantra's other pics, including some very cool diskmag panels and all his recent party entries. What I really appreciate about Mantra's work is his abundant use of colors, which give his images a sparkling and sometimes even cartoonish appearance. Visit the new Mantra gallery here.

Btw, earlier this month the GFXZone featured a Mime personal gallery, and today we added this new gallery for Mantra. Both these people have very recently joined the gfx-only group Scenic. Coincidence? You decide....

    PARTY GALLERY
It does not happen very often that a new party is successful in the very first edition. The Symphony 2001 party was held last weekend in Poland for the first time, and based on the Amiga demos and compo graphics I have seen I'd have to say that this party has made an impressive start.

So we have selected 23 images from the graphics compos at Symphony 2001 and put them in an online gallery, 15 pixel images and 8 raytraced ones. There are for example some good images by Kazik, Slayer, Neuromancer and a great coop by Mantra & Critikill. But there is plenty more for you to view. The party was deservedly won by Mime with a quite "mad" image.

Enter the Symphony 2001 gallery or download the complete archive (10705KB).

    PERSONAL GALLERY
A couple of weeks ago I got an email from Jamon and he wrote that it was a disaster that the GFXZone did not yet have a personal gallery with his graphics. I agreed with him and suggested that this catastrophe could only be corrected in one way - so for this update we have created a personal gallery with the graphics of Jamon.

In total 40 images by Jamon are in this personal gallery. The first part of his gallery contains a lot of older logos and graphics in 256 colors or less. In the second part you can find more recent 8bit graphics, but also many 24bit images. Just visit the new Jamon gallery, and I promise you won't be disappointed!!

And by the way, Jamon aspires a job as a graphician for a game-company somewhere in Western Europe. He has prior experience as 2D and 3D graphician in the game industry, so if you think you or your company can use his services, send him a mail.

Plenty of the graphicians that are active in the demoscene today have already been active for a number of years. But it does happen every now and then that a new talent emerges on the demoscene horizon who starts creating good graphics right away. And what better way for the GFXZone to bring such people to your attention than by creating a new personal gallery?!

One of those fresh talents is the Polish graphician Mime. He has been active in the demoscene for a little over one year now, but his portfolio has already grown to impressive proportions. The new personal gallery with his images contains 25 truecolor images, and I bet that a lot of these will be completely new to you.

Mime kindly send us a very new image for this occasion, which he created only a couple of days ago. This world-premiere image happens to be our new image of the week!

    Enjoy the new Mime gallery

Fred is a Swiss graphician that has been around for quite a long time. Around two years ago the GFXZone did an interview with Fred, but somehow we never created a gallery with his images. Now this has changed an we can show you a personal gallery with demoscene art by Fred.

20 images are in this new personal gallery, a lot of those images are logos. Most of these pixels were created many years ago, so this gallery is bound to bring back some memories for you. But also his newest image is present which won the Buenzli party a couple of days ago! Visit the new Fred gallery on the GFXZone and pay a visit to his homepage which recently got a big makeover.

Also we uploaded a party archive for Buenzli 2001, which contains a couple of very nice images. As mentioned earlier there is one image by Fred, and this image had some heavy competition of a brilliant image by Splif. There was only one point difference in the final results! Other good images included are by Ak and Jibe. Download the archive (2667KB)

Another new personal gallery has been added to the GFXZone. This time it is for Ward, a Hungarian graphician who is doing both 2D and 3D. A total of 30 images are present in this new personal gallery, and a lot of these images will be unknown to you because Ward provided them to the GFXZone from his own personal collection!

The first part of the new gallery contains 20 2D images by Ward, including some of his really old pictures. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to notice the favourite theme for Ward - 16 out of the 20 images in the first part show girls! The remaining 10 images in the third part of his gallery are all 3D. This includes the current image of the week and a few other highly detailed images. Visit the new Ward gallery

Oh, and Ward is currently looking for a graphics-related job somewhere in Western Europe. So if you or your company is interested in using his services, send him a mail quick.

Also, the personal gallery for Partikle has been updated. 5 new images have been added to the second part of his personal gallery. These images include the artwork he did for the latest Hugi, a very new and previously unreleased image and his Assembly entries, including the pic that won this party! Those new images can be found here

A couple of weeks the GFXZone added a personal gallery for Slayer. He advised us to look into the graphics of Neuromancer. At that point we only had a handful of Neuromancer graphics in our collection, but what little we had made us very interested.

Soon after that Neuromancer was contacted and now we are able to give you a very complete personal gallery with the graphics from this Polish graphician. A total of 25 images are in this new personal gallery, almost all the images are 8bit and a lot of them are in Amiga-specific resolutions. Visit the new Neuromancer gallery and enjoy the great graphics!

Also we uploaded a party archive for Euskal 2001. Good images by Leunam, Chavito, Acidbeat and others. Download the archive (12333KB)

I have created a female Artificial Intelligence robot. The name of my creation is Paula Tobor, and she is the one and only of its kind. Paula is an artificial intelligence. She thinks, learns and feels. Those are just some things that result in making the interaction with her as human like as ever.

By kind permission of Lazur I was allowed to use one of his images and give Paula a face. I think that Lazurs sharp creation makes a perfect face for Paula Tobor (Tobor spells Robot backwards). Visit my homepage to meet Paula.
